Research & Education Films

Years of work.
A few minutes

to make it land.

But it is only impactful if it is seen and understood.

BASED IN MUNICH

WORKING ACROSS EUROPE

MULTILINGUAL

We help universities, research institutes, and medical institutions turn complex work into films that reach funders, students, partners, and the public without losing the accuracy and credibility the work depends on.

For publicly funded and grant-funded work, communicating value is no longer optional. It is expected by funders, demanded by the public, and increasingly what decides whether a programme recruits and sustains itself. The difficulty is rarely the subject. It is finding a shape for it that still holds up to the people who know the work best.

Your work needs to reach people outside your institution, whether funders, prospective students, the public, or partners, without losing the accuracy and credibility that makes it matter.

We understand universities
from the inside.

All of our team hold postgraduate degrees, and some have spent several years in research and lecturing roles. We know what peer review feels like. We know what it means to represent your work to a funding body. When we walk into a research institution, we are not outsiders learning your world - we have worked in it.

What this work is for

When important work needs to travel beyond the field

Researchers, academics, and institutions funded by public money or grants are operating under a specific kind of accountability pressure. Communicating the value of their work is not optional — it is expected by funders, demanded by the public, and increasingly central to how programmes recruit and sustain themselves.

The challenge is not only making the subject simpler. It is finding the right shape for the story without losing the nuance that makes the work credible to the people who matter most.

We help research and education institutions communicate

why

the research matters — to audiences who did not commission it

what

a programme offers and what makes it worth applying for

who

is behind the work and why they care

how

the project connects to society, education, innovation, or public value

the impact

of a programme or research initiative to funders and partners

Research & Education Communication

These films fail in
predictable ways.

We work against each one

These are patterns we have seen when a production team does not understand the stakes of accuracy, or the specific culture of academic and institutional communication. None of them are unavoidable. Each one is a decision we have already made about how we prepare, what we ask on the day, and what we protect in the edit.

what goes wrong

  • The film becomes accessible to everyone but is no longer recognisable to the researchers themselves, undermining trust with the audiences who matter most.

  • Put in front of a camera, researchers tend to retreat to the language they are most confident in: precise, granular, and closed to anyone outside the field. Nothing in it is inaccurate. It is simply not understood by the people the film was made for.

  • Information without shape does not hold attention. A catalogue of findings, modules, or facilities is not a narrative, and audiences stop watching before they understand what any of it was for.

  • Public institutions and grant-funded bodies have to be careful about looking like they are marketing themselves. A film pitched at the wrong register can actively damage trust with funders and peers.

what we do about it

safer

We understand the stakes of academic credibility

We protect scientific and institutional nuance because we have operated inside that world ourselves. We know what it means to have your work represented to a funding body, and we treat that responsibility accordingly.

sharper

We find the narrative structure inside the complexity

Rather than forcing research into a generic explainer format, we take time to understand the shape of the work, what changed, what was at stake, who it involved, and build the film from there.

more human

We help researchers speak naturally, not perform

We build trust before the camera rolls, especially with researchers, professors, and programme leads who are not used to being filmed. Our job is not to make them present. It is to help them sound like the most compelling version of themselves.

What we create

Built around your subject, audience, and moment

What we produce depends on the combination of variables specific to your project. Rather than a fixed format menu, we work across a set of dimensions and build the right film from that combination.

Every science and research project is scoped differently. The number of interview subjects, filming locations, language requirements, film length, and asset range all affect the investment. If you want to understand what a project like yours might involve, see how we think about pricing.

We can also produce digital assets for online education: video modules, explainer sequences, and course materials that extend the reach of a programme beyond a single film.

Projects where accuracy and accessibility had to coexist

Two projects from long-term institutional relationships. Both required us to hold scientific or medical complexity while making it genuinely understandable to an audience outside the field.

ESA  ·  Deltares

Ocean Plastic Detection — Pan-European Satellite Research Documentary

A 30-minute documentary explaining a pan-European research initiative using satellites to detect ocean plastic. The film had to explain the science, the funding rationale, and the contribution of multiple participating teams — without losing a general viewer. Produced across multiple countries with multilingual interview subjects.

Part of an ongoing relationship with ESA spanning multiple projects across space research, recruitment, and scientific communication.

Medical Programme Launch Film — Largest Medical Education Institution in the Netherlands

The landing page film for the core medical education programme at Erasmus Medical Centre — the largest medical education and research institution in the Netherlands. The film is seen by every prospective medical student who considers the programme, making tone, accuracy, and human representation all critical.

GREAT WORK STARTS
WITH
THE RIGHT
PARTNERSHIP

Not every project needs the same approach. Here are a few signs that the way we work could be a good match for what you need.

01

BEYOND YOUR FIELD

Your research or programme needs to reach an audience outside your own field.

02

CREDIBILITY MATTERS

Accuracy, credibility, and nuance matter to your funders, peers, or institution

03

RESEARCH & INSTITUTIONS

You work at a university, research institute, medical institution, or public-funded body

04

VALUE NEEDS VISIBILITY

You need to communicate the value of a programme — for recruitment, funding, or public visibility

05

PEOPLE LEAD THE STORY

You want the researchers and people behind the work to carry the message, not a narrator

how we work

Not every project needs
the way we work.

Our process, what we ask of you along the way, who we are a good fit for, and how we arrive at a price are all set out in one place.
